The house is in an old, characteristic village, up in the Garfagnana mountains, but is also near to the seaside and to the ski slopes.  The mountains and hills in this area of the Garfagnana are highly drammatic with views down to the Lake of Isola Santa.

The house was modernised in the 1970's with lots of wood inside.  This was how Italian families decorated their hillside, weekend retreats.  The teo bedrooms upstairs are very large and so have space to put a second bathroom upstairs making the small downstairs bathroom a cloakroom.   In the kitchen there is a fireplace, but there is no other heating.

A peculiarity of houses in this area are the slate rooves made from local stone.
