House and Dependence with Spectacular Views over the Lima valley near SPA town of Bagni di Lucca
This house is to be found in the Controneria, which is a region beloning to the Municipality of Bagni di Lucca – the famous Spa town visited by Byron and Shelley during the Grand Tour.
The village itself has been built right next to the first hills of the Appenies. The sight of the village with the impressive hills behind it, is very romantic.
The house itself was lived in until about eight years ago and the furniture and features of the house are a bit out of fashion however, the structure is excellent and the rooms are large.
Before getting to the house itself, there’s a neighbour house and the yard is communal.
The entrance is right under a stone arch – the door is a few steps up and in front of it is the door to the garden. Yes, the garden is enclosed and very private. This makes it great for positioning a pool here. There’s also an old cloakroom built into the wall surrounding the garden.
The entrance to the house is also a good size dining and sitting room. Next to it on the left there’s an unmodern kitchen with a fire place, then a storage room and the one bathroom with bath and washing machine.
Next to the sitting room is also the master bedroom.
The staircase that takes up to the first floor, are very well made in strong wood. But underneith them there is a stone staircase in Pietra Serena (grey stone), which also could become a nice feature.
Upstairs are to good sized bedrooms, one is a walking through room. But on the top of the stairs there’s a trapdoor with stairs coming out of the ceiling, taking to an attic with space for another bedroom.
The wooden panels on the ceilings hide the original chestnut beams and can easily be removed.
Across the courtyard, is an outhouse which could form a guest lodge.
All the land can be sold with the house, but it can also be sold without the terraces of land underneath the garden.
In front of the barn there is a small plot too and in front of the house one could make a nice patio for al fresco dining. The yard here is also communal and the cellars of the house are here.
The windows are quite new and double glazed, and the roof is new too.
The sewers are old and at a restoration they will probably need to be redone.
The position of the house with it’s stunning views, with the enclosed garden with the beautiful stonewalls and with the possibility of building a pool, makes this house really attractive.
